Pressure is a Privilege

Privilege of Pressure

A big theme currently seems to be that everyone feeling some form of stress and pressure. People are bending under the pressure of finances, employment, family responsibilities, professional performance, personal expectations, academics, sports, health, to name but a few. Everyone is quite stressed and somewhere along the way, this pressure starts to eat away at personal joy. Especially for people who are not equipped to handle pressure or stress well.

Someone in my life who I really learn a lot from, and especially on this topic, is my daughter. We spend a lot of time next to the sports field to support her. Unless something major shook her (like a completely left flank, blatantly unfair unsportsman-like attack off the field), she is pretty stable and it’s almost like the more the pressure, the more she thrives. She thrives in strikeouts. She get’s nervous yes, but she keeps her calm and she almost always scores under pressure (that makes my knees shake)! If she can keep her head in the game and not have emotions come in, her body kicks into performance drive almost automatically. In fact, the more she get’s into her body, the more she gets out of her mind and emotions and she shines! Once she is on the field, there is a switch that clicks on and she puts all aside an focus on the goal. She loves the pressure because she says it means she can influence the game. She can create impact. (and those who know field hockey, knows its ALL about impact!).

Now she’s only a teenager, so we have no expectation of her to have mastered her emotions yet, and we are working with her on learning to redirect potential interferences. One thing I keep re-inforcing with her is that the pressure she feels, means that she is in a place of privilege (or opportunity). The fact that she has this pressure, means that she has opportunity. An opportunity to show to herself and the world what talent and potential she has locked up inside herself. But also, even if the exercise is “not so successful” she still had the opportunity to try and to learn from the experience!

The fact that you are feeling pressure or stress or up against something bigger than yourself means:

  • you are alive, you have breath and that means opportunity
  • you have time
  • you are presented with an opportunity to act and change something for yourself
  • you have the opportunity to make a choice
  • you are able to influence someone, somewhere
  • you have prepared, you have grown and you are getting tested for your ability to hold the energy and expand
  • it means you have responsibility or someone trusts you with responsibility = you are capable!
  • you have options
  • you can be really good at something
  • you can step up as a leader
  • you can bet better than what you were yesterday
  • you can serve and mean something to someone (organisation, team, fellow man, family)
  • you can achieve and set yourself up for a better life/frequency
  • you have a shot at fulfilling your dream(s) / life or soul contracts
  • you can access true joy

So many people did not wake up with the opportunity this morning to go out and try to be better. So many people will not wake up tomorrow with the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone. So many people will not have the opportunity to grow. They don’t simply have the physical-, mental ability or circumstances to get up and feel privilege of pressure.

At the end of the day I think it’s all down to perspective. Do you view the pressure as an enemy(negative) or an opportunity? Contact me if you want to learn how to better cope with stress in your life, so that you can rise and do/be better!

Love and Moonlight,

Leonie
